Trotula de Ruggiero<\/h1><\/div>
<\/span><\/div><\/div>[vc_column_text]The young daughter of the important de Ruggiero family, known in the 9th century for having donated a large part of her possessions to Ruggero il Guiscardo for the construction of the Cathedral of San Matteo<\/strong><\/a>, was among the lucky ladies to have the opportunity to access higher studies , coming to study and later to teach at the renowned medical school of Salerno.<\/p>\n

Trotula did not limit herself to studying the texts and theories at the time of Galen and Hippocrates, nor did she usually accompany the treatment of patients with magic rites and prayers, as was common to the doctors of the time, but she practiced medicine according to methodologies that they are very close to the scientific one.[\/vc_column_text]
